Cross Country Skiing

Cross country skiing is generally only available at elevations of 4500' or more. The most popular trails are in the Elk Garden area of the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. The Elk Garden Trail and the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail cross the Elk Garden parking lot on highway 600, approximately 20 miles from Damascus. The upper (southern) end of the Virginia Creeper Trail at White Top Station is also a popular cross country skiing trail. Snow conditions are very unpredictable. Please contact Mount Rogers Outfitters or Mount Rogers National Recreation Area headquarters for snow conditions.

Downhill Skiing
